A typical wetland environment, the Barthes contrast with the traditional Landes forest.

The wetlands are fields of marshland. These 50 hectares of preservation area are made up of water gorged peat and constitute a rare ecosystem. Vast quantities of birds, insects, butterflies and abundant vegetation can be found here. Partly classified as a Sensitive Nature Area (ENS), the upkeep and maintenance of the wetlands is taken care of by the department's Hunting Federation (upkeep) and the town (hydraulic and planning network).
