Les Landes

Between traditions and delicacies. A little history of the Landes... Before the 19th century, La Lande was made up of extremely poor soils: sandy and soggy. Only pine developed in this region.

The population grew rye and millet, and raised sheep to fertilize the land. This is where comes the image of the Landes shepherd perched on his stilts, which allowed them to watch the herds, and to move quickly, dry, in the swamps.

Going back to the 21st century, La Chalosse is a vast territory a few kilometres from Hossegor and of great wealth. The Pays Adour Chalosse Tursan comprises 10 cantons (Aire-sur-l'Adour, Amou, Geaune, Granada-sur-l'Adour, Hagetmau, Montfort-en-Chalosse, Mugron, Saint-Sever, Tartas-Est and Tartas-Ouest) and covers more than 2,000 km². La Chalosse has a great gastronomic, heritage, natural and cultural wealth. Indeed, the southwest is famous for its generous cuisine and good wine, castles, abbeys, villages… and its many activities and activities such as golf, quad, hiking, swimming, ferias and Landes races.

A few kilometres from La Chalosse is Dax. The spa has 15 spas and 60,000 spa guests each year. Dax is also famous for its Ferias, it is a festive city. During these many bull shows are organized in the arenas such as the bullfight or the Landes cow races for example.
